The brief

360° video and VR technology are becoming more popular in recent years with the introduction of low cost omnidirectional cameras to the market and the support given by YouTube and Facebook to this format, however the adoption is still in its infancy. The field of education might be a good place to start. How should 360° videos and VR be used in the field of education to enhance learning and what are the opportunities these technologies unlock to improve the teaching process.

The background

JJ-Net Group Ltd produces visual internet based web services that improve business for direct customers and resellers. Our operation is based on a single core ideology, TSI24 content management system which is used to produce websites that clients may easily update themselves, panoramic image environments and demanding software solutions for the in-house and outside communications of a corporation. There are almost 500 companies using our services and our CMS has almost 2000 users. The amount of web services delivered topped 500 in March 2013.

The problem

How can 360° videos and VR help improve the learning process and enhance learning? What sort of problems can it solve and what possibilities does it unlock for both students and teachers? The team is expected to explore innovative applications for these technologies in the field of education and to build a demo of one such application.
