How can we create 3D models using images taken with mobile phones and what are the best use cases for those models in a smart city environment? How can photography and photo editing be utilized in 3D environments?
Nokia has a long history in developing mobile technology and especially cameras and image processing. We would like to explore the possibilities of turning basic mobile phone images into 3D models and how could those images be utilized in data collection in a smart city environment like Tampere. There are some already existing solutions, but we are interested in demos that show the use cases and value for the end-users.
Taking photos is a very common concept to us. In fact, it is so common that we tend to take more photos than we actually need. But what if these photos could be used for something grander, e.g. for modelling different places in Tampere in 3D? Could these places be modelled in 3D by photogrammetry? What solutions already exist? How can we capture objects from different angles? Moreover, how can we utilize the 3D models e.g. in Unity environment? What use cases can we find for the 3D models in a smart city? How could the community benefit from these models? Team competence: Media students, students interested in photography and photo editing, photography art and design, knowledge about Unity environment, 3D modelling, game studies, software skills in general
