The brief

People involved in communal building construction processes (Ryhmärakennuttaminen in Finnish) wait anxiously through the whole process to get to live in their new, freshly-built apartment. What are the means to visualize upcoming building in different stages in order to keep the excitement up for the whole time?

The background

Communal construction management, where the inhabitants are on the driver's seat for the whole construction process, is one of the rising trends in construction sector in Europe. In Finland, only Helsinki has adopted the structure and is supporting it on city level. The project partner, R&T Rakennustuotepalvelut is curious to see if communal construction’s spreading could be hasted with dedicated services and practices, in this case with completely new way to approach continuous reporting process.

The problem

A big obstacle in ramping up the communal construction is the lack of common practices & ways to manage such process. As another project done in the same field this season in Demola is considering the platform as such, this project considers more specific part of the platform. How could the various means of gamification and visualization give an authentic vision to future habitants of the building’s features and outlooks in different parts of the project to provide enhanced building experience? What mechanisms are required in order to keep the excitement up and the communal builders committed? Competences especially required for this project: Architecture, game studies, design, construction, Computer sciences, User experience
